Spectral Analysis of Time-Domain Phase Jitter Measurements

چکیده
A simplified overview of time-domain jitter measurements is presented in this paper. The relationship between the timedomain jitter measurements and the power spectrum of the phase jitter is described using fundamental Fourier properties and basic random variables analysis. This leads to a unifying analysis and the results are in agreement with commonly accepted understanding of jitter accumulation in oscillators. The presented analysis also provides the basis for comparing different jitter measurements.

Modeling of Jitter Characteristics for the Second Order Bang-Bang CDR
Bang-Bang clock and data recovery (BBCDR) circuits are hard nonlinear systems due to the nonlinearity introduced by the binary phase detector (BPD). The specification of the CDR frequency response is determined by jitter tolerance and jitter transfer. In this paper, jitter transfer and jitter tolerance of the second-order BBCDR are characterized by formulating the time domain waveforms. As a re...
متن کاملJitter Measurements for CLK Generators or Synthesizers - AN2744
Clock (CLK) generators and synthesizers form the pulse of a complex digital system and errors in a clock's signal quality can have wide-ranging effect. One of the most important performance measurements is clock jitter. Jitter is defined as "the short-term variation of a signal with respect to its ideal position in time." In a clock generator chip, there are many factors which contribute to out...
متن کاملVCO Jitter Simulation and Its Comparison With Measurement
We have simulated the phase noise of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) using an RF circuit simulator, SpectreRF [1]. This simulator uses a variation of the periodic noise analysis rst proposed by Okumura, et al [2]. It computes the power spectral density of the noise as a function of frequency. By assuming that only white noise sources are present in the oscillator it is possible to derive ...
متن کاملJitter Transfer Characteristics of Delay-Locked Loops—Theories and Design Techniques
This paper presents analyses and experimental results on the jitter transfer of delay-locked loops (DLLs). Through a -domain model, we show that in a widely used DLL configuration, jitter peaking always exists and high-frequency jitter does not get attenuated as previous analyses suggest. This is true even in a firstorder DLL and an overdamped second-order DLL. The amount of jitter peaking is s...
متن کاملFree and Forced Transverse Vibration Analysis of Moderately Thick Orthotropic Plates Using Spectral Finite Element Method
In the present study, a spectral finite element method is developed for free and forced transverse vibration of Levy-type moderately thick rectangular orthotropic plates based on first-order shear deformation theory. Levy solution assumption was used to convert the two-dimensional problem into a one-dimensional problem. In the first step, the governing out-of-plane differential equations are tr...
